about

Blue Waves is a solo piano album that abandoned the electronic beats, brass, and guitar solos which permeated FOX HUNT’s 2016 debut album Caviar Dreams. The US Presidential election of that same year left many people feeling speechless, the absence of lyrics on this album reflects that loss for words. Blue Waves isn’t a protest album, instead it’s a series of songs born in response to the chaos that permeates our daily news cycle. It’s an offering of songs inspired by the environment that invites the listener to disconnect for a moment, clear the mind and catch a breath before jumping back into the fray again.

Newcomers and fans of FOX HUNT both will find that, before the pop style hooks, came the classical study of piano. Blue Waves begins as an exercise in minimalism with the opening track “Mineral” before moving into the impressionistic “Pascal” as a nod to the influence of Debussey whose inspiration came during the time when the Paris agreement was being undermined by those in denial about the future of our climate.

It was a visit to Alaska and seeing the effects of climate change in person that helped to write “Glacier,” to the point where the song almost wrote itself. By allowing space in the music to play and equal role to notation, the song takes its time to reveal something more massive, if not destructive, resting under the surface.

All the songs on this album reveal their own personalities, much as they did during their creation: in a year where they began as routine morning improvisations to prepare for the day—growing over time into fully realized compositions. Songs like “Shipwrecks” is especially frantic in FOX HUNT’s hands, while “Smoke” and its companion piece “Mirrors” spread out in haunting ways reminiscent of Eric Satie.

about

FOX HUNT Seattle, Washington

FOX HUNT, (One of Reactable.com's most-downloaded artists of 2012) opts for a simple, observational, approach to songwriting. A rather ambidextrous Musician sporting a wide variety of strange electronic gadgets & gizmos, FOX HUNT's baritone vocals, classically-trained piano skills and muted Tenorion beats are reminiscent of artists like Hot Chip, Sebastian Tellier and Tiga. ... more
